Question 1:  Can I drop or add a class at any time? - Return to Top

Q1 Answer:
Online registration has not changed the rules associated with dropping or adding a class. The only difference is that you have the ability to drop or add a class online rather than through the traditional registration process. If you drop a class after a certain period of time, you may or may not receive a refund (either partial or full). See the bulletin or other documents such as your course syllabus to determine the date. Also, you can only add a class up to a certain date as well.

Students may not drop a class after the class withdrawal date. This is usually 75% of course instruction. Students may add a class after it starts, but will need authorization signatures. See Dropping a Class and Adding a Class under the Registration information found on the CMC web site for additional information.

Question 3: When do I need to withdraw from a class to avoid getting a letter grade? - Return to Top

Q3 Answer:
Online registration has not changed the rules associated with dropping a class. The only difference is that you have the ability to drop a class online rather than through the traditional registration process.

Students must drop prior to the refund date to avoid receiving a letter grade. See Dropping a Class and Adding a Class under the Registration information found on the CMC web site for additional information.

Question 4: How do I waitlist for a class that is at capacity? - Return to Top

Q4 Answer:
After placing the class on in your "Preferred Sections" list, select Waitlist from the Actions drop-down menu by that class.

See how does Express Registration work? or how does Search and Register for Sections work? for more information based on the online registration option you have selected.

Question 5: If I put my name on a waitlist, can I still register for the same class at another time or location? - Return to Top

Q5 Answer:
Yes

Question 6: How does the waitlist work - will I be notified if seats open or should I go to the first class even if I haven't been notified that a seat is available? - Return to Top

Q6 Answer:
If a class has a waitlist, even if another student drops out of a class opening a space for another student only those listed on the waitlist will be given the first opportunity to register. If you have placed your name on a waitlist and are eligible to register for the class based on the CMC waitlist rules, you will see a "P" by the waitlisted class on your class schedule. Here is how the process works:

  1. The campus staff get a report each day of available classes.
  2. They notify students when space opens in a course for which they are waitlisted.
  3. Students will be given a deadline in which to register.
  4. If they do not register within that time frame, they will be dropped from the waitlist.
