Question 1: Can I look at CMC class offerings without a User Name and Password?Return to Top

Q1 Answer: Yes. See "Search and register for sections."

Question 2: Do I need a counselor to register?Return to Top

Q2 Answer: No, if you meet the qualifications for online registration. However, we strongly suggest that all students see their faculty advisor or a Student Services Counselor prior to registering for classes online.

Failure to utilize the services of an advisor or counselor prior to online registration might result in:

1.Taking classes that are no longer required in your program;
2.NOT taking new classes that may now be required in your program;
3.Taking classes that are not transferable to the 4-year college of your choice; and/or
4.Making other assumptions that could ultimately result in your not graduating when you had originally planned.

Question 3: How do I use the "Register for Sections" link on the Student menu?Return to Top

1.You must be logged in to WebAdvisor to register for classes. If you have not logged in yet, do so now.
2.Select the "Students" link.
3.Click the "Register for Sections" link on the Students Menu.
4.

The next page presents four options:

a.

Search and register for sections (classes) – Use this option if you would like to look for sections, add them to your preferred list (a list of classes you have selected but have not completed registration on) and register for all or some of the classes on your preferred list.

View Search and Register for Sections tutorial

b.

Express Registration – Use this option if you know the exact subject, course number and section (or synonym) of the sections for which you wish to add to your preferred list and then register. (Example: MATH*100*01 OR Synonym 42765)

View Express Registration tutorial

c.Register for Previously Selected Sections – Use this option if you have already placed sections on your preferred list and would like to now register.
d.Drop Sections – Use this option if you would like to drop a section. (Another Student Menu link also allows you to drop a section while you register for another.)
e.Manage My Waitlist – Use this option if you would like to register or remove sections that you are currently waitlisted in.

5.Depending on the link selected, different screens will be presented.
6.

The student must select the "Make a Payment" link and pay for the classes prior to insure the student is enrolled in the classes selected. Confirmation of registration and of payment will be sent to the e-mail address currently in the student's contact information. If we do not have a current e-mail address, no confirmation will be received.

If a student decides to pay through a cash transaction (check, cash, etc.), the payment must be received by an Account Manager by 4 pm on the day the student registered. The Account Manager must mark the record as paid or the registration will be deleted at midnight.

The same rule applies if a student registers but does not complete the registration by paying for the selected classes through the "Make a Payment" link before midnight. If not paid by midnight, the registration will be deleted.

See answer to "Do I have to pay the entire amount owed on the day I register for my classes?" for more details.

Question 6:  What are Grade Options?Return to Top

When registering for sections, if a Grade Option is not selected the presumption is that you want to receive a letter grade for the class. See more information on Grade Options...

Question 7:  What might prevent me from registering online?Return to Top

There are several things that will prevent you from registering online. First, you must be eligible to enroll online. See Who can register online? You must have established a User ID and Password. See Do I need a User Name and ID? You MUST ALSO HAVE A CURRENT EMAIL address associated to your Student record to register online.

You may still not be able to register online or through the traditional registration process if you have holds associated to your Student record. View more information...

Question 8:  How can I view more detail on a class?Return to Top

After accessing a list of the section(s) of interest, you can view more information on a specific class. Below is an example of the additional information presented and how you would access it.

Question 9:  Why do you call classes "Sections"?Return to Top

The system we use to create classes designates them as sections. We are unable to change this designation.

Question 10:  What is a section number?Return to Top

It is the third component of the class number. For example, Section BUS-115-DL01 – the Section number is "DL01."

Question 11:  Do I need to put all the information in for a class when using Express Registration?Return to Top

No. You can just use the synonym for that class or input part of the class name and select from the list presented. View Express Registration tutorial.

Question 12: Will WebAdvisor let me register for two classes when there is a time conflict?Return to Top

No. A message will appear at the top of the registration screen indicating that you have a conflict. This must be resolved before you can continue with the registration process.

Question 13: When I clicked on "Submit" to register for the selected sections, it took me back to the same screen and did not register me for the classes selected. Why?Return to Top

There are various possible reasons why you were unsuccessful at registering, e.g., time conflict, prerequisites not met, academic hold, etc. Based on the issue(s), you will receive "Alert" messages indicating what you need to do to solve the problem, e.g. contact your Student Services Academic Advisor. See Registration Holds and How to Solve Them.

You have several choices:

1.Remove all classes that you have issues and register for those remaining.
2.Maintain all classes on your Preferred Sections list and contact the appropriate parties to resolve the issues; and/or
3.Select other classes to replace those that you are unable to register for.

There may be other options as well. If you have questions about your options, we suggest that you contact your Student Services Academic Advisor. View a list of counselors by location.

Question 14: The summary information provided when selecting sections does not give me enough detail about the course. How can I access more information?Return to Top

Yes. Each class name is a link to another page providing more information about the class selected. See Question 6 above.

Question 15: How can I tell if a class is full?Return to Top
Use "Search for Sections" or "Register for Sections" link to view the classes of interest. Once you have access the classes of interest, the "Available/Capacity/Waitlist" column shows how many students can still register for the class, the class capacity (the total number of students who can register for the class) and if there are students already on the waitlist. If the class is full, your only option would be to waitlist for the class.

Viewing Available/Capacity/Waitlist Info

Question 16:  Why do my prior semester classes appear in the "Registered for these Sections" area when I'm registering for the next semester?Return to Top

There is a time window between semesters when your grades have not been posted for the courses you are currently taking. Until the grades are posted, these classes will still appear on your record.

Question 17:  I haven't taken a placement test, e.g. Accuplacer, but I'm still able to enroll in a college level English class. Why?Return to Top

New Students have a one semester grace period to complete the placement exam. If you register for some classes during this window, you are able to register even if you have not taken the placement test. By the second semester, you will be unable to register for classes requiring a placement test until you have completed them.

Question 18:  I've registered for classes before and not been prevented from registering based on college level reading requirements and/or Selective Service requirements. Why am I prevented from registering now because of these things?Return to Top

New rules have been incorporated into the registration system that will prevent Students from registering if they have not met these requirements. See
Registration Holds and How to Solve Them.

Question 19: Is there a way I can register for Selective Service or verify that
I have complied with the Selective Service registration rule?
