Lifelong Learning at Spring Valley
Classes for fun. Classes that explore the natural world. Classes that feed your personal passions. Lifelong learning is one of Colorado Mountain College’s primary missions. Every semester, Spring Valley offers new lifelong learning opportunities that often include field excursions. Pre-trip classroom meetings are held at the campus at Spring Valley, 3000 County Road 114, just seven miles outside of Glenwood Springs.

Avalanche Safety (1 CR)
Section 72176: Tuesday & Thursday, 7-8:50pm, Jan. 8 & 10;

Spring Valley
Students receive a certificate of completion stating that the course was taught following the guidelines of AIARE. The class includes two backcountry outings, which will cover up to five miles. Students must ski, snowboard, or snowshoe at an intermediate level or receive instructor consent. Avalanche beacons, shovels, and probe poles are provided; however, students may bring their own for the instructor to evaluate for appropriateness. The supplemental charge includes access fee, textbook, field transportation, and AIARE Level I Certificate. The supplemental charge for the class is non-refundable. Minimum Age 17. Cost: 1 credit hour of tuition plus $179. Advance registration required.
Wilderness First Responder (4 CR)
Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 6-8:50pm, Jan. 15-Feb. 27
Field days: Feb. 9, 10, 23 & 24
Spring Valley
This class will be taught to the guidelines of the Wilderness Medicine Society. Field meeting dates will emphasize practical skills in backcountry settings. Upon successful completion of this class, students will be awarded certifications from Desert Mountain Medicine (WFR) and the American Heart Association (CPR). Cost: 4 credit hours of tuition plus $330. Advance registration required.
