Introductory Classes:

Intro to PC Applications (3 CR)

Introduces computer concepts and components, as well as application suite software and the Internet. Includes descriptions of, and hands-on experiences with, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, operating environments, and other common PC application packages. Cost: 3 credits of tuition.

Introduction to the PC (1 CR)
Mondays, 6-8:50pm, Mar. 18-Apr. 15 in Carbondale
Provides the beginning computer user with hands-on experience in the elementary use of the personal computer. This course introduces the basic features of and the terminology associated with personal computers, including topics such as database, spreadsheet, and word processing. Cost: one credit of tuition.

Microsoft Word 2010 (1 CR)
Fridays, 9am-4:20pm, Feb. 8-15
Gives the student an introductory working knowledge of word processing. The student will create, edit, format, save, and print documents. The student will use spell check, grammar check, and thesaurus features. The student will format text, paragraphs and pages, change margins, and use the find and replace feature as well as create envelopes and labels. Cost: one credit of tuition.

Microsoft Word 2010 - Level 2 (1 CR)
Fridays, 9am-4:20pm, Feb. 22 & Mar. 1
Increases the student’s working knowledge of word processing. In this module, the student will learn to use the merge function. The student will create multiple page reports using headers, footers, footnotes, endnotes, and page numbers. The student will create and format documents using columns and tables. Cost: one credit of tuition.

Microsoft Word 2010 - Level 3 (1 CR)
Fridays, 9am-4:20pm, Mar. 22 & 29
Increases the student’s working knowledge of word processing. In this module, the student will learn to use borders, drawing, word art, and graphics. The student will create macros, charts, outlines, styles, and fill-in forms. The student will also sort and select records. This course is the third in a series of modules. Cost: one credit of tuition.

Microsoft Excel 2010 - Level 1 (1 CR)
Mondays, 6-8:50pm, Jan. 21-Feb. 18
Introduces the student to concepts and applications of an electronic spreadsheet. Topics include creating a worksheet, developing a professional looking worksheet, and creating charts. Cost: one credit of tuition.

Complete Spreadsheet: Microsoft Excel 2010 (3 CR)
Thursdays, 6-8:50pm, Jan. 24-May 2
Exposes the student to a wide range of uses of the electronic spreadsheet with special emphasis on using it as a business tool. Includes fundamentals and terms, creating and saving workbooks, entering and using formulas, formatting, printing, multiple page workbooks, creating charts, entering and using functions, managing lists, and simple macros. Cost: three credits of tuition.

Open Lab Computer Help (Personal Tech Support Just for You)
Wednesdays, 5-5:50pm, Feb. 27-Apr. 24
Have you ever been working on homework or some important project and needed extra help with the technology - i.e., How do you put in a footnote? How do you attach/zip a document? Sign up for this ‘open lab/tutor time’ to get your questions answered. A qualified instructor will be on hand to answer any/all questions that you may have. Don’t waste time struggling, banging your head, and getting frustrated. Come and get help! Sign up and get access to help every Wednesday evening from 5-6p for 2 months. Mac Seminars:

Mac: The Basics
Saturday, 9am-noon, Feb. 9
Learn the basics, like the proper power off / on of  your Mac, how to identify the external connections to the computer, using the mouse or track pad, and gaining a better understanding of the Mac desktop including its menus. Learn how to adjust your sound volume and screen brightness, how and when to right click. Covers the Apple menu, the Finder, and system preferences. Also explore creating, saving, copying, moving, deleting, finding, and transferring files. Briefly introduces some of the most popular Mac applications. Cost: $35.

Mac: Beyond the Basics
Saturday, 9am-noon, Mar. 9
Learn what application are, what they are not, and why you want to use them. Covers how to open an application, switch from one application to another, switching from one window to another, how to use Expose, how to select more than one thing from a list, how to put an application into the dock for easy access, how to set your application preferences, and how to use the Help Menu in an application. We will also go over the dashboard and keyboard shortcuts. Cost: $35.

Mac: How to Use iPhoto
Saturday, 9am-noon, Apr. 13
iPhoto is a popular and fun Mac application for organizing, editing, sorting, and sharing your photos. Learn how to download and view pictures from your camera, how to organize your photos, and how to create events, albums, and slide shows from your photos. Find out how to edit your photos to improve color and exposure, and how remove red eye. Also covers how to share your photos via email and on-line. Bring your own camera with some of your recent photos on it. Cost: $35.

Emphasizes entering, saving, finding and editing basic transactions. Introduces fundamental concepts and reports. Cost: $75.

Covers manual checks, bank transfers, credit card transactions, reconciling bank and credit card accounts to third-party statements, and use of asset, liability and equity accounts to record transactions. Prerequisite: Quickbooks I or instructor consent. Cost: $75.

Advanced QuickBooks III
Friday, 9am-3:50pm, Feb. 22 (Carbondale)
Topics include sales and payroll taxes, time keeping features, generating payroll tax returns, and using Quickbooks to caluclate taxes, record transactions, produce reports and pay tax liabilities. Prerequisite: Quickbooks II or instructor consent. Cost: $75.

Desktop Publishing with Adobe InDesign CS6 (3 CR)
Thursdays, 2-4:50pm, Jan. 17-May 2 (Glenwood)
Introduces the concepts and applications for desktop publishing. Emphasizes page layout and design with techniques for incorporating text and graphics and final production of printed documents. Cost: 3 credit hours of tuition.

Adobe Photoshop I (3 CR)
Tuesdays, 2-4:50pm, Jan. 15-Apr. 30 (Glenwood)
Concentrates on the high end capabilities of a raster photo editing software as an illustration, design and photo retouching tool. Students explore a wide range of selection and manipulation techniques that can be applied to photos, graphics and videos. Cost: 3 credit hours of tuition.

Photoshop CS6 Workshop
Fridays, 1-4:50pm, Feb. 1-15 (Glenwood)
Learn the basic tools, palettes and general interface of Adobe Photoshop CS6. We will cover fixing photos, color correcting, photo resolution and sizing and how all the above affect the appearance of your photos. We will explore many special effects using brushes, layers, and masks. Please email the instructor (bobbie@sopris.net) with any Photoshop questions which will then be covered in class. Cost: $125.

Desktop Publishing CS6 Workshop
Fridays, 1-4:50pm, Feb. 22-Mar. 8 (Glenwood)
Learn the basic tools, palettes and general interface of Adobe InDesign CS6. We’ll cover page layout and design while producing advertisements, flyers, and simple brochures. We’ll explore different methods of preparing our documents for printing or web attachments. Please e-mail the instructor with any InDesign questions which will then be covered in class. Computer Technician II: A+ (4 CR)
Thursdays, 6-9:50pm, Jan. 17-May 2 (Glenwood)
Teaches students to upgrade, install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot current and legacy MS Windows operating systems. In addition, students will learn to install, configure, and troubleshoot device drivers. Students will also learn to identify the network capabilities of the operating system and configure the operating system to connect to the network. This course will prepare you for the CompTIA A+ OS Technologies exam. Cost: four credit hours of tuition.

Managing an MS Windows Server Environment (4 CR)
Tuesdays, 6-9:50pm, Jan. 15-Apr. 30 (Glenwood)
Provides students with the knowledge and skills that are required to manage accounts and resources, maintain server resources, monitor performance, and safeguard data in a Microsoft Windows Server environment. Cost: four credit hours of tuition.

Microsoft Visual C++ (3 CR)
Tuesdays, 6-8:50pm, Jan. 15-Apr. 30 (Glenwood)
Introduces the use of the Microsoft Foundation Class Library for Microsoft windows programming. Enables the student to utilize Visual C++ AppWizard to create complete Windows applications employing the document/view architecture. Explores the Visual C++ resource editor to create menus, toolbars, controls, and dialogs and use Class Wizard to handle Windows messages. Successful completion of CSC 119, Introduction to Programming, prior to taking this course advised. Cost: 3 credit hours of tuition. 

Automated Project Management: MS Project (3 CR)

Provides an in-depth exploration of project management techniques that use software to automate the project management processes. The course emphasizes project management strategies, goal setting and communication with team members, management, and vendors. Critical thinking, discussion, and real-world projects will be used to explore the creation of a task list, resource assignment, and leveling. Students will learn to use GANTT charts, milestones, Critical Path Methodology, PERT, project tracking, and reporting. Cost: 3 credit hours of tuition.

Networking I: Network+ (3 CR)

Provides students with the knowledge necessary to understand, identify, and perform necessary tasks involved in supporting a network. Covers the vendor-independent networking skills and concepts that affect all aspects of networking, such as installing and configuring the TCP/IP. This course also prepares students for the Network II: Network+. Cost: 3 credit hours of tuition.

Focuses on advanced routing and switching configurations, LAN switching, network management, and advanced network design. Cost: 5 credit hours of tuition.

Cisco Network Associate IV (5 CR)

Focuses on project-based learning, including advanced network design projects and advanced management projects. This course and CNG 260, CNG 261 and CNG 262 prepare students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification exam. Cost: 5 credit hours of tuition.
