KAREN CHAMBERLAIN was born with a love of nature and discovered a love of language as she learned to read. Her poetry unites both loves, and has earned several national awards. For six years she worked as senior writer/associate producer for the PBS nature series, Wild America. KATIA CURBELO-DEL VALLE is orginally from Puerto Rico (Caribbean island), where she was raised and did all her studies up to college through the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus system. She received her BA in Modern Languages (French and Italian) in 1998. In 2008 she went to Stony Brook University (SUNY System), to work on an MA in Romance Languages in Italian, at which time she has the possibility to live and work in Rome and Sicily (Italy), and eventually returned to PR. After two years there, she decided to go back to work on a PhD, which she currently is finishing at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, through the Institute of Communications Research.

JANIS HUGGINS is a botanist, author and photographer who's recent book Snowmass Village-Wild at Heart won the Colorado Non-Fiction Book of the year Award in October 2006. After 40 years in Aspen, she's still out exploring the area when not involved in rare plant research and monitoring for the Colorado Natural Heritage Program at Colorado State University.

EVA JANKOVSKY holds an MA in Education Administration with an emphasis in Early Childhood Leadership from the University of Denver. She began a non-profit in Cambodia to help under-privileged children attend school. ANTHONY JERKUNICA is a professional ballet dancer, builder, yoga studio owner, world traveler, surfer, and husband.

CJ JILEK grew up outside of the Chicago area and found she had a few great loves: ceramics, travel and the natural world. Cj received her undergraduate degree in ceramics from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1995. Afterwards she started traveling and exploring her ceramics. Cj moved to Northern California to wood fire where she created vessel forms, exploring the wood fire surface in conjuction with textures representative of the natural world. Cj continued her travels through California and relocated to Santa Barbara where she taught ceramics for the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the public school system, and private schools. Cj hs always been involoved in her community volunteering for organizations such as Empty Bowls, Ventura County Potters Guild, and Santa Barbara City College. While living in Southern Californi she traveled the western United States. in 2006 Cj took a short-term residency at the  Mendocino Arts Center, leading to her renewed interest in graduate studies. Utah State University provided her with the opportunity to study and travel; she studied in Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and China. She recently completed her MFA degree in 2010. Being inspired by her travels, Cj is now creating porcelain biomorphic forms fired in oxidation with mixed media elements. Through her work she questions ideas of beauty, attraction, eroticism, adaptation and desire. She continues to travel giving lectures and workshops.

CHUCK JOHNSON is a licensed equine veterinarian, as well as a certified OCE, EMT-P, PALS and PHTLS provider. He is also a CPR and ACLS instructor, as well as a primary EMS instructor for the State of Colorado. ALISON OSIUS has been in magazine journalism for 26 years, and is currently executive editor of Rock and Ice magazine and columns editor of its companion publications, Trail Runner. Past editorial jobs were at the onetime publications Canyon Times newspaper in Salt Lake City and UltraSport magazine in Boston, and at the once locally published Climbing magazine. A longtime active freelancer, she writes a humor column for the Glenwood Springs Post-Independent; elsewhere locally has written for the Valley Journal, Aspen Daily News and Aspen Sojourner; and has published in many newspapers and magazines including The Washington Post Sunday magazine, The Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe and The Denver Post, with chapters or essays in half a dozen book anthologies. She authored a biography, Second Ascent: The Story of Hugh Herr, published in hardback by Stackpole Books and paperback by Dell Publishing. She graduated with high honors in English from Middlebury College in Vermont, and received a Masters Degree form the Columbia Journalism School, New York. DAVE RUFFLEY was born in a railroad/coal mining town in western Pennsylvania. His family history is interwoven with the working class of the mining/railroad/steelmaking industries of the Pittsburgh region, and those roots have strongly shaped his outlook on life and education. Dave is a 1983 graduate of the Air Force Academy, where he majored in Russian Area History.  A career Air Force Security Forces officer, he commanded security and law enforcement units in Alaska, Germany and Wyoming. He also served as an Air Force Russian Foreign Area Officer. In that capacity he taught Russian and World History at the USAF Academy from 1990-1992 and from 1998 to 2003. He completed a tour of duty as an United Nations Military Observer in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. Following his retirement from the US Air Force, Dr. Ruffley taught Russian, World and Environmental History at Colorado College in Colorado Springs from 2003-2007. LUKE RUNYON is a reporter with Aspen Public Radio in Aspen, Colorado. Luke has received a Masters of Arts in Public Affairs Reporting from the University of Illinois at Springfield  and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Illinois at Springfiled. Previously, Luke worked as a statehouse reporter for Illinois Public Radion in Springfield, Illinois, where he covered the governor's office, state legislture and the Illinois supreme court. In Aspen, Luke covers local government, the environment, and energy issues.

SARAH SCHMIDT works as the Education Director at Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. Prior to moving to Aspen, she taught art in a middle school in Minnesota. Sarah has a MAED in Natural Sciences and Environmental Education and her BFA in Art Education.

ELIZABETH SIEGEL has been a 6th grade teacher, a Legislative Affairs specialist with NASA, and an Ethics Counselor to a U.S. senator. STEVE SILBER began his education at CMC. Subsequently he received his BFA in Ceramics from the University of Colorado Boulder, and his MFA in Sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design. Steve has shown his work internationally and throughout Colorado, including Denver Art Museum and Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. Recently he opened Aspen Alternative Artspaces, with his partner Erin Perry, and teaches skiing and snowboarding on Snowmass Mountain.

SHAYNE MORGAN SLEDGE received a BA from University of California at San Diego and has studied yoga and meditation for over 20 years. She is currently teaching yoga and meditation in the Aspen area. ssledge@coloradomtn.edu

CARL SMITH holds a BS in Public Administration from Metropolitan State College of Denver and an AA in Fire Technology Prevention and Suppression from Red Rocks Community College. Carl is happily married with 5 children and 6 grand-children. He served on the Carbondale Fire Dept., Glenwood Springs Fire Dept., Aurora Dire Dept., and the Sunlight Ski Patrol. Carl has extensive experience in emergency incidents including Emergency Medical, structure fires, wildland fires and hazardous material incidents.

MARTI STUDE is a licensed clinical social worker and former healthcare administrator. She has a Masters in Social Work from the University of Louisville and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from Washington University in St. Louis. Past experience includes developing a counseling program for cancer patients and families, directing a cancer center, and hospital administrator. Since moving to the Roaring Fork Valley in 2005, Marti has worked with Pathfinders for Cancer, Valley View Hospital, and Hospice of the Valley. She is married to Ted Stude and they enjoy hiking, biking, golf, and all the wonderful cultural activities in the surrounding area. They have one daughter, Laura who lives in St. Louis, and a frisky 12 year old Airedale terrier, Molly.

CHRISTINA TINKER After teaching adults in the business world as a Corporate Trainer for many years, she began teaching Psychology about 3 years ago, for University of Phoenix, Kaplan Unversity, and CMC, in both in-person and online formats.

CHRISTINE TINNER graduated from Michigan State University (James Madison College), with a bachelor's degree in Urban Policy and Psychology. After many years as a massage therapist and vocational instructor, Christine obtained a TEFL, taught English in Switzerland, and obtained a Master's in Education specializing in Literacy from Walden University. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Education: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment also from Walden University. LEIGH VOGEL holds a MA in Corporate Communications/Public Relations from Georgetown University and is a photographer based in the Washington, DC area. Leigh contributes photographic content to major news and business image content distributors such as Corbis, Getty Images, and Polaris Images, and the Associated Press. She is also a communications consultant at the World Bank and Photography Fellow at Georgetown University's Center for Social Impact Communication. As a consultant she helps organizations communicate strategically via imagery. Leigh was previously Editor-in-Chief at Aspen Peak magazine and Media Relations Director for Aspen Film.

GEORGEANN WAGGAMAN has a BA in Interior Design and Illustration from the Los Angeles Art Center College of Design. REBECCA WEISS is a naturalist who has helped conduct local bird counts, biological surveys, and ACES programs over the past 13 years. She holds a BS in Biology and a MA in Environmental Education, and has worked on bird research teams at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory and on Manua Kea, Hawaii.

BRIAN WELLS is a graduate of Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management. Brian is a lifelong Roaring Fork Valley resident and brings 8 years of construction management and trade experience to the firm. Brian holds a certificate of designation as a Certified Professional Constructor from the American Institute of Constructors. Additionally Brian holds a light commercial construction BEST card. Prior to joining the Crystal Springs Builders, Brian held a project management position with a large heavy civil construction firm based in Anchorage, Alaska.
