Canyon Orientation Backpacking Class in Utah, May 6-11
Explore remote canyons & ancient artifacts where the Anasazi dwelled from 700-2000 years ago. This backpacking course introduces students to canyon travel & camping techniques in Grand Gulch Primitive Area. Students develop proficiency in Leave No Trace Travel Techniques, canyon travel & group camping skills while exploring the geology, geography and ecology of canyon country.
During this concentrated field experience, students will develop proficiency in canyon travel; group camping, geology, geography, and ecology of canyon country. This is an eco-focused course with a 7 day, 6 night overnight camping trip from 5/6-5/11. . An equipment list is available at the front desk. Course fee of $95 is non-refundable and payable at time of registration. Optional round-trip transportation to Moab site is an additional $35 fee; opt-out at registration if providing own transportation.
Dates & Times: Class departs Breckenridge on Sunday May 5th at 1pm to travel to Utah. Students wishing to provide their own transportation can meet the class at the Grand Gulch Primitive Area on Sunday night. The class will return to CMC late Saturday night, 5/11
Location: Grand Gulch Primitive Area in Cedar Mesa. This is near Monticello, Utah, about 1 hour south of Moab.
Travel: Carpool with CMC or alternatively, you can provide your own transportation and meet the class Sunday night at the group campsite just north of the Kane Gulch Ranger Station.
How to Get There: Kane Ranger Station-4 miles south of U-95 on U-261.
Equipment: Refer to the supply list for all details on equipment or pick up a supply list at the front office when registering.

Are you a little rusty with your medical skills? Need to recertify your wilderness medicine certification before it expires? Join CMC’s Wilderness EMS staff outside Moab Utah for a wilderness medicine refresher course for WFR’s & WEMT’s.
Course Description:
This 3 day, 24 hour course is for WEMT’s and WFR’s that need to refresh and update their skills and knowledge in wilderness rescue medicine. CMC has been instructing wilderness medicine for decades and has certified thousands of EMT’s, WEMT’s & WFR’s. Our venue will be the amazing desert environment outside Arches National Park along the Colorado River at the private Goose Island group campsite. Immerse yourself in wilderness medicine with instructors dedicated to this field! 18 hours of approved continuing education for EMT’s!

Venue:
The course will be held at the Goose Island group site “A” campground along the Colorado River. Students can camp at the group site where the course is held or opt to stay at another campsite or hotel of their choice. The campsite has picnic tables, a fire grill, and a fire ring. Vault toilets are located near each site. Each site accommodates multiple tents, and Site A has a large raised tent pad. Large cliffs across from the campground provide early afternoon shade to the sites. After class in the evening students can hike, bike, climb, raft, kayak or go sight-seeing in this amazing environment. Moab is about a 4 minute drive and Arches National Park about a 10 minute drive from our group site.
The Goose Island Recreation Site is located on Utah Highway 128, two miles upstream of the junction of Utah Highway 128 and U.S. Highway 191. You will see the Goose Island Recreation Site sign at the campground entrance.
Dates, Times and Transportation:
The course will be held over May 15-17 (Wednesday to Friday) from 8 am-5 pm. The course ends on May 17 at 5pm. Students have the nights free to explore the Moab area. Students are encouraged to show up on Tuesday, May 14 to settle in and set up camp. Transportation is not provided by CMC! There will be a carpooling option for interested students. Notify Brian to get on the email list for further details on carpooling.
Equipment
CMC will provide the common area or shelter with basic camping supplies for the students to use. This will include a camp kitchen, lanterns, ice coolers, 5 gallon water containers & sun shelters. Students will have to supply their own food for the entire course. Instructors will make daily runs for water and ice so the students don’t have to leave the venue if they don’t want to. Moab is about a 4 minute drive if the student needs any additional supplies or commodities. CMC will provide all the necessary medical supplies for the course. A recommended supply list will be emailed to students once they register for the course.

- Course exceeds the Wilderness Medical Society’s Guidelines
- 18 hours of CEU’s approved towards National Registry Recertification

WEMT Upgrade Course Description:
Join CMC’s Wilderness EMS staff as they offer another intensive WEMT upgrade in the amazing desert environment outside Arches National Park. This course will be held over 5 days just outside Moab along the Colorado River at the private Big Bend group campsite. This 5 day intensive wilderness medicine certification upgrade is for EMT's, medics, nurses and physicians who want to learn the specialty of wilderness medicine and rescue. 45 hours of approved continuing education for EMT’s!

After class in the evening students can hike, bike, climb, raft, kayak or go sight-seeing in this amazing environment. Moab and Arches National Park are both about a 10 minute drive from our group site.
The Big Bend Recreation Site is located on Utah Highway 128, 8 miles east of the junction of Utah Highway 128 and U.S. Highway 191. When you reach the Big Bend Recreation Site, our site is Group Site “C” . Big Bend is about 4 ½ hours from Breckenridge.
Dates, Times and Transportation:
The course will be held over May 20-24 (Monday to Friday) from 8 am-6 pm. The course ends on May 24 at 1pm. Students have the nights free to explore the Moab area. Students are encouraged to show up on Sunday, May 20 to settle in and set up camp. Students may stay an additional night or two if they have friends or family taking the concurrent Wilderness First Responder, as long as they are not disruptive to the ongoing classes. Transportation is not provided by CMC! There will be a carpooling option for interested students. Notify Brian to get on the email list for further details on carpooling.

Outdoor Enthusiasts, Guides, Educators, and Search and Rescue Team Members – Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification remains the most comprehensive baseline wilderness-protocol medical education. Learn to assess, to treat and to appropriately evacuate patients with emergent backcountry medical issues during CMC's upcoming WFR practicum near Moab, Utah!
Earn 4 college credit hours and an array of medical knowledge in CMC's intensive 8-day, 72-hour WFR course. Our instructors all have more than a decade of Outdoor Education, SAR and/or Guide experience, and also currently hold positions at medical facilities or ambulance service.
