Hands-on Ski Area Management Training

Get real experience at world-class Colorado ski resorts

The best way to learn Ski Area Management is to experience it first-hand. Drive a snowcat. Help build a new ski trail. Repair a gondola. Colorado Mountain College's epic locale and hands-on philosophy give you the chance to actively work on some of the most notable slopes in the nation.

Our campus is located in the heart of Colorado ski country in Steamboat Springs. You'll have easy access to regional resorts including Arapahoe Basin, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Vail.

Required internships take students to their choice of any winter resort in the world. As an intern you are paid regular wages and can expect guidance and supervision from both ski area management personnel and your Colorado Mountain College Ski Area Operations instructors. Many students make contacts during their internships that lead directly to employment.

Location

The Ski Areas Operations building at the Colorado Mountain College Timberline Campus houses the classrooms, mechanics' bays, tool rooms and work areas for the Ski Area Operations program. Just outside the classroom you will practice snowmaking techniques on Dutch Henry Hill, the training area for local racers. Eighteen kilometers of cross-country trails on campus and 20 kilometers on the adjacent Mineral Belt Trail provide opportunities to learn Nordic operations and events management.
