Hands-on Animal Shelter Management

Real-life experience at a working animal shelter prepares students to be leaders in the field

To succeed in animal shelter management, you must be able to work with animals. That means hands-on experience. The more, the better.

Colorado Mountain College gives you more real-life experience with direct on-site access to C.A.R.E. Animal Shelter, a 220-acre Veterinary Technology Farm, a fully equipped teaching hospital and an equine teaching barn. You’ll learn to care for domestic and farm animals as well as exotic, laboratory and wild species.

Your hands-on training includes:

• Work experience and valuable partnerships with mentors at C.A.R.E. Animal Shelter, a unique learn-and-work opportunity
• Taking part in daily shelter operations, including adoptions, animal training, veterinary care and business duties
• Caring for typical farm animals such as cattle, horses, sheep and llamas
• The opportunity to work with owls, eagles, lizards, tortoises and hawks
• Business-specific courses in accounting, clinical office procedures and public speaking for a well-rounded education

You'll be taught by professionals in the field, animal shelter professionals, certified veterinarians, veterinary technicians that work with animals on a daily basis. They know how important hands-on experience is, and they are committed to giving you the best.
