Accommodations for Disabilities
To receive accommodations for a disability at Colorado Mountain College, a student must:
- Provide current documentation to the Special Population Coordinator. (See Documentation Guidelines)
- See the Special Populations Coordinator every semester to request accommodations. Accommodations may change depending on student needs and the classes taken.
Student Responsibilities
To receive the help you need to be a successful CMC student, you need to review the following information:
- To receive accommodations you must provide documentation of your disability.
(IEP's not acceptable. See Documentation Guidelines)
- You must meet with the Special Populations Coordinator at the beginning of each semester to ask for the accommodations you need and to do a little paper work.
- To receive Books on Tape or have your textbooks recorded, you need to make your request as soon as you know which textbooks you will need (When you register for classes, visit the bookstore for this information or see your instructor.) You will need the name of the text, author, edition and copyright date. You will need a 4 track tape recorder for Books on Tape (several available at the library). It may take several weeks to receive tapes if the books are recorded locally.
- If you need to take your tests in a quiet place, need extra time, or need oral testing, arrangements must be made in advance of each test (3 to 7 days).
- If you need tutoring in a subject other than math or English (available in the Learning Lab/Alpine Center), make the request as soon as possible. It takes time to find people qualified and willing to tutor.
- Talk to your Special Populations Coordinator if you have a problem. If an accommodation is not working, changes may be possible.
- Attend All Classes. If you must miss a class, it is your responsibility to let your instructor know and to get your assignments from a fellow student or your instructor.
Accommodation may include (but is not limited to) the following:
- extended test time
- oral testing
- books on tape
- sign interpreter
- note taker
- tutoring
- other services ( personal counseling, educational advising, campus referrals, and student advocacy)
