What services are available?

Tutoring: Tutor services are available to all Upward Bound participants and are geared to high school course content or basic skills development.

Academic Counseling: Upward Bound staff works with your high school counselor to help guide you toward your academic future.

Career Counseling: Upward Bound staff will encourage you and assist you as you explore your career options.

Personal Counseling: Upward Bound staff will assist you in overcoming outside problems that affect your academic performance & retention.

Cultural Events: Participants will experience activities designed to broaden your knowledge of racial & cultural differences in society and broaden your appreciation of the arts.

Monitoring Progress: Monthly Upward Bound meetings will be held with your attendance required. Activities include social and recreational opportunities that build self-confidence & group identification; tours of businesses or colleges; computer instruction; tutoring; and, cultural celebrations.

ACT/SAT Test Preparation: Juniors and seniors participate in ACT/SAT test preparation workshops.

Financial Aid Advising: Upward Bound staff works with students and their parents to identify scholarships for college & fill out federal financial aid forms.

Summer Academic Enrichment Program: This required, 6-week, residential program provides intensive instruction in composition, literature, math, laboratory science, foreign language & computer applications. Tutors will be available. Social & recreational activities are also included.

Stipends: Participants receive a monthly stipend if they maintain a 2.0 gpa, attend weekly tutoring sessions, participate in activities & have a positive attitude. Ask for details!
