snow fieldSnow & Ice at the Alpine Campus

Winter can be long in Steamboat Springs, and we love it when the snow starts to fall.   This means a whole new variety of course options unfold for the winter.

Snow Orientation Slideshow

students with skisSnow Orientation (OUT114)
This is our 2 credit winter course aimed at camping & recreating in our
Colorado mountain's winter environment.  We learn how to gear up for the winter's cold, build snow shelters, and travel safely.

Avalanche training (OUT160)
We teach Level 1 Avalanche courses to introduce backcountry users to safe travel and assessment of snow conditions in the surrounding backcountry.

Telemark Skiing (PED139)
W
e introduce you to the basics of the telemark turn, telemark gear, the history of this activity, and we go out and make some turns in both the backcountry and in a lift assisted area.

Ice Climbing (PED173)
In this course, you're introduced to technical ice climbing at one of our local frozen waterfalls.

Survival Skills (OUT210)
Students travel into the backcountry and learn the basics of surviving in an emergency winter situation.
