Teaching outdoor leadership safety in Alaska.Earn Your Outdoor Recreation Leadership Degree in the Colorado Mountains!

The Colorado Mountain College Outdoor Recreation Leadership degree program can give you the skills and knowledge to develop and lead many types of outdoor programs.

As you earn your Outdoor Recreation Leadership degree you will learn wilderness skills and gain confidence in leadership situations. We stress low-impact techniques for responsible environmental stewardship. The two-year outdoor education course teaches safe and efficient "leave no trace" travel in a variety of environments along with group development, leadership theory, conflict resolution, communication, decision-making and wilderness studies.

Americans increasingly spend their leisure time in outdoor recreation activities. Many of them choose adventure travel or outdoor education experiences. Growing environmental concerns lead many to learn more about caring for the our planet. This shift to outdoor recreation has accelerated the need for graduates of outdoor education and outdoor leadership college degree programs.

Our program is designed to enable students to transfer a four-year college or university. See some of our previous graduates.

CMC graduates have transferred to Colorado State University's Department of Natural Resources, Western State College's Department of Recreation, the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Southern Colorado. These agreements allow Outdoor Recreation Leadership graduates to transfer directly. Articulation agreements are also being developed with other institutions.

The Colorado Mountain College Outdoor Education certificate can be applied toward this degree.
