Microcomputer Specialist Certificate Program

Today's microcomputers are the backbone of business. Linked to each other and to the Internet through local area networks (LANS) and wide area networks (WANS), these computers connect employees and projects in a single building or across the country.

Businesses need skilled technicians who can operate, manage and maintain microcomputers and their networks. The job market is expanding for employees who can protect valuable data, understand the rapid changes in computer and data communication technology, provide user support, troubleshoot, solve problems with hardware and software, and manage networks. Some graduates from information systems programs are getting as many as seven job offers.

Colorado Mountain College offers computer training for several computer support programs. The Microcomputer Specialist is a one-year certificate that concentrates primarily on software installation and troubleshooting for microcomputer systems. The two-year Microcomputer Support Specialist degree adds networking skills, hardware repair and installation, and troubleshooting courses. Courses in business and communication offer greater opportunities to advance.
