One Week Intensive Training

The First Ascent Leadership program is a five-day residential program. This year, students will have an opportunity to stay at the dorms at our Timberline Campus at Leadville. Students engage in outdoor physical activities such as rock climbing, including climbing Mt. Elbert, the highest mountain in Colorado, rafting and hiking. Students will complete a challenge course, designed to teach and develop team-building, empowerment, communication skills, conflict resolution and consensus building.

In addition to outdoor activities, academic subjects such as environmental science, land and water conservation and orienteering are introduced.

Evening sessions bring students together to explore the elements of effective leadership through small group discussion led by the camp director and counselors. First Ascent alumni and students in Colorado Mountain College's Outdoor Recreation Leadership program assist throughout the week.
