Instilling Life-Long Leadership Skills in Young People

Each year, First Ascent Youth Leadership brings together students from six counties in north-central Colorado. The one-week program at the Colorado Mountain College Timberline Campus in Glenwood Springs is designed to help young people from various social and economic backgrounds develop leadership skills and confidence.

Now in its 14th year, the First Ascent Youth Leadership program has achieved great success. To date, more than 480 young people have participated and in this we again expect all slots to be filled with eighth and ninth graders from throughout the college district.

During the program, academics, physical outdoor activities and evening small-group discussion sessions are combined to allow our young leaders to step out with greater confidence in their newfound skills. Check here for more information about the program and how to apply.

Year after year participants and parents say that this one-week intensive course was an important decision point. Students return to participate more fully in their schools and communities, more aware of the needs of others and more willing to meet challenges with positive solutions.
