Law Enforcement Training CurriculumCertificate Requirements for Law Enforcement Training Check here if you are having trouble downloading and viewing PDF forms. The Academy is not easy; it requires students to apply their learning abilities both in and out of the classroom. It requires the ability to do college-level work and requires regular attendance. Students will be provided with course outlines and various handout materials throughout the duration of the Law Enforcement Training Academy. Students are responsible for taking notes and organizing materials in ways that best suit their learning styles. Each student will be provided with a class schedule. Changes in scheduling may occur due to the availability of instructors and classroom space for training. See the Rules section for attendance requirements. A general aptitude, "Asset Examination" and several "Learning Style Examinations" will be given on the 1st class day to assist in identifying areas where additional instruction may need to be focused. Also, on the 1st day, an Academy "Pre-examination" will be given. This exam will be used for course evaluation and comparison with the "Exit-examination" given at the conclusion of the Law Enforcement Training Academy. Seven written examinations will cover the classroom material presented during the previous five (5) class days. Additionally, there will be three practical examinations in the three skills classes of shooting, driving, and arrest control. A student who misses an exam may take it at the discretion of the Director. The score for a late exam may not exceed 70%. There will also be periodic unannounced exams administered at the 8:00 am start of class. The Academy curriculum is divided into eleven different academic and skills classes for which students will receive an individual college grade: 1. Administration of Justice 2. Basic Law 3. Community Interaction 4. Patrol Procedures 5. Traffic Control 6. Preliminary Investigative Techniques 7. Firearms (Skills) 8. Law Enforcement Driving (Skills) 9. Arrest Control (Skills) 10. Communications 11. First Aid/CPR These eleven classes are broken down into approximately sixty four separate classroom blocks; written tests contain questions from parts of different classes from week to week. Grades in each class depend on average test performance on the questions asked in the weekly tests combined with pop quiz scores. The grading system is: 93.0% - 100% = A 83.0% - 92.99% = B 73.0% - 82.99% = C 63.0% - 72.99% = D
