Instructor Approval Process

Instructors at Colorado Mountain College must meet specific criteria for approval to teach credit courses. Your supervisor may hire adjunct instructors, but final approval or disapproval is the responsibility of the appropriate dean or director. This review/approval process is required to assure a high quality and consistent level of instruction.

A Master’s degree in the appropriate discipline is required for instructors of transfer-level courses. A Bachelor’s degree and/or combination of work and educational experience for occupational programs is accepted. In some circumstances, a current or ability to obtain a Colorado and/or Federal Specialized Licensure is required.

All instructors must submit the following materials for hiring consideration and subsequent placement in their permanent file:

1. Resume and Colorado Mountain College application;

2. College transcripts, certificates and related credentials;

3. Loyalty oath (as required by State of Colorado);

4. Course syllabus, due by first class meeting.

Vocational Credentials

Instructors teaching in approved occupational degree and/or certificate programs or occupational skills upgrade courses, must also hold a Vocational Credential as required and issued by Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System (CCCOES) or Colorado Mountain College. Check with your instructional supervisor as credential standards have distinct requirements for each occupational area.

The minimum requirement for a credential is a high school diploma or GED and at least 4,000 hours (approximately two years) of paid work experience in the area of instruction. Your supervisor has application forms and will assist in completing the required information. The application must be submitted before the semester begins.

Contracts

Contracts will be issued as soon as possible after the semester begins, or in cases of small workshops, before the class begins. The contract will reflect the course, sequence number, pay/grade, total contact hours, total payment and payment schedule. Contracts need to be reviewed, signed and returned to your site immediately after receipt.

Payroll Procedures & Paycheck Issuance

The following paperwork is required before the Payroll Office can issue a first paycheck: 1) Adjunct Instructor Contract; 2) I-9; 3) W-4; and 4) Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) form.

Checks are issued and mailed to the instructor’s home address, unless otherwise noted, with an arrival date of the 15th of the month. All paperwork must be submitted to payroll by the first of each month to ensure payment.

This benefit may be applied in the semester of employment or the semester immediately following. Additional fees and costs, if any, must be paid by you. This benefit is transferable to spouse and IRS eligible dependents.

Workers’ Compensation

Colorado Mountain College strives to provide a safe working environment for its employees. However, accidents do happen even under the best of circumstances. For this reason, Workers’ Compensation insurance is provided to cover on-the-job injuries/illness. All work related accidents must be reported in writing within four days by the employee to the appropriate supervisor so that an accident report can be filed. If medical attention is required, you must see a College designated physician at the closest location. In emergency situations, report directly to the nearest emergency facility.
