TeleWeb Courses

>> TeleWeb Courses Schedule & Syllabi

TeleWeb courses are college credit courses organized through the use of a study guide, textbook, and video programs. Access to your instructor, class discussions, and additional materials comes online via the CMC Blackboard course management system. The video programs are productions by commercial organizations or educational institutions. The videotapes are available for checkout at any Colorado Mountain College location to allow students to view the programs at home or at any college site. (General tape check-out policy) Students may obtain their own personal set of videos for most courses, for a fee, by contacting ACT Media  at 1-800-745-5480 or by visiting http://www.actimedia.org. Other access options are included in the course syllabus.

TeleWeb courses are designed to provide opportunities to further the student's educational goals. They are a challenging way for the student to become an independent learner by taking on the responsibility of learning on an individual basis--an essential skill required in our global economy. Consequently, the reading, assignments, and testing are more extensive to make up for the lack of classroom lectures and other activities. Students should expect to spend anywhere from 4-8 hours in study time each week per TeleWeb course. Some students may find they need to spend more than 4-8 hours studying each week.

Is A TeleWeb Course A Regular Class?

TeleWeb courses appear on a student's transcript just as any other course would. That is, no distinction is made on a transcript between a TeleWeb course and a regular course. Students signing up for a TeleWeb course have to submit to CMC's regular placement and testing procedures if the TeleWeb course has prerequisites.

Who Teaches TeleWeb Courses?

Full-time or adjunct faculty instructors who are qualified in the field of study pertaining to each TeleWeb course teach TeleWeb courses. The TeleWeb course syllabus is developed by the instructor and is available on the web for prospective TeleWeb course students to view. The instructor also provides an orientation to the TeleWeb course students by mail, email, phone or through a video. The orientation will introduce the instructor, explain how the TeleWeb course will work, and discuss the importance of self discipline and keeping on schedule in order to successfully complete the TeleWeb course.

The TeleWeb course instructor then supplies the students with assignments, comments on the students' learning, and tests them through assignments, examinations or research papers. Exams may be distributed to each site where there will be a person assigned to proctor the exams at an arranged time with the students or the exams will be online via the Blackboard system. Some instructors will use take home exams rather than this procedure. The instructor keeps in touch with the students through written work, email, online discussion boards, or telephone conversations.

Which CMC Locations Offer TeleWeb courses?

TeleWeb courses are offered at all CMC locations. Videos can be viewed either at a CMC site or at home. Contact between the student and instructor is via the phone, online discussion groups, mail, and/or email.

TeleWeb course books are usually purchased through MBS Direct. Students will place orders directly through MBS Direct by internet, phone, fax, or mail.
