Why Study Abroad?
Wondering how to distinguish yourself from the masses who are looking for jobs? The United States is suffering from a shortage of professionals with international knowledge and foreign language skills. Currently, only 1% of students in the U.S. study abroad each year (U.S. Senate Resolution 2006).
You can take charge of your future by making friends around the world and learning more about yourself. You can optimize your education by learning first-hand another language, another culture, and a new you!
- Enhance your education and personal growth
- Take charge of your future
- Expand your world-views
- Gain critical career advantages
- Learn a language where it is spoken
- Compare cultural values and ways of life
- Explore your heritage
- Build new relationships
- Become globally literate
- Dispel stereotypes
Study abroad can be one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences in a college student’s career. Getting to know another culture, living in a new environment, learning a new language, meeting people: all these add up to a kind of education beyond what one acquires on campus.
Equally important for American students is the discovery of their own country—its customs, its traditions and values—as they come to see it from a foreign vantage point. No wonder so many returnees from overseas study say that the experience changed their lives.
There is indeed ample testimony to the fact that students learn well and mature quickly when studying in a different culture. And as all regions of the world dramatically become more interdependent, the truly educated person is one with first-hand acquaintance with other cultures. It's a powerful preparation for responsible citizenship and, in a very practical way, basis for a career.
The World. Your Classroom.
