Solving Text Edit Box Problem when using Microsoft VISTA

Some Students and Faculty have purchased new computers that have the Microsoft VISTA operating system installed. When they attempt to use the text box editor in Blackboard, it is not available as shown below. To resolve this issue, follow these steps.

Message box not available

Step 1:

Access Blackboard and select the Personal Information link.

Step 2:

Select Set Visual Text Box Editor Options.

Step 3:

Available is the default setting for Set Availability.

Available is set as default

Step 4:

Change Set Availability to Unavailable. Then, select the Submit button.

Step 5:

Select OK.

Select OK button

Step 6:

Select OK again.

Select OK button

Step 7:

You are returned to the Welcome page. Select the course where input into a text box is needed.

Step 8:

In this example, we’ve selected the Discussion area as we want to add a new thread to the discussion postings.

Step 9:

A Message area is now available to input information.

Message box now available

Please note that the only difference between this message window and the one available before these settings were changes is that you do not have the ability to enhance your text.

If this is important, please attach your file with a quick note in the Message window to direct others to your file. REMEMBER, you need to save the document to Microsoft Word 2003 or a PDF file to insure others can view it.
