Changing Cookies, JavaScript and ActiveX Settings in Internet Explorer

To use Blackboard, you must have cookies and JavaScript enabled. Collaboration features require Java 1.5 available at http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jsp.

In addition, for some functions such as the discussion board, you may also need to have ActiveX enabled. Here are steps to enable these functions.

Step 1: Open Internet Explorer (a web browser) and select Tools/Internet Options . . .

Step 2: To modify JavaScript settings, select the “Security” tab and then select the “Custom Level…” button. If you do not wish to modify these settings, skip to Step 5.

Step 3:

Scroll down to access the “Scripting” settings. Modify scripting settings, as needed. Then, select the “OK” button.

Step 4: Select the “Advanced” tab. Scroll down to access the “Java” settings. Modify this setting, as needed. Then, select the “OK” button.

 

Step 5: To modify the Cookies settings, select the “Privacy” tab and then select the “Advanced …” button. If you do not wish to modify these settings, skip to
Step 7.

Step 6: Modify cookies settings, as needed. Then, select the “OK” button.

Step 7: To modify the ActiveX settings, select the “Security” tab and then select the “Custom Level …” button. If you do not wish to modify these settings, skip to Step 9.

Step 8: Scroll down to access the “ActiveX” settings. Modify these setting, as needed. Then, select the “OK” button.

Step 9: To close the Internet Options window after the appropriate settings have been modified, select the “OK” button. In the example below, we were in the “Security” area. The same process would be used to close this window irrespective of the tab you were in.
